Lead EICS Engineer


We are currently looking for a Lead Electrical & Instrument and Control Engineer to work for Jacobs UK Operations.Lead Electrical & Instrument and Control Engineering effort on projects executed from the Westlake office.

Act as focal point for all E&I activities within the Westlake’s office. This requires the ability to work semi independently.

Responsible for technical content of EC&I deliverables, supervision of EC&I staff including mentoring and patorial care, scheduling, management of budgets, construction and engineering cost estimating.

Develop relationships with nuclear clients and develop business opportunities.

Develop project specific solutions to complex problems that require a high degree of innovation and ingenuity.

Evaluate the desired goal of the system and develops, designs, or selects the required equipment, controls, and components to achieve the project goal.

Participate in planning, cost development and management, and scheduling for assigned projects.

Assist Department Group Manager with estimating and proposal development.

Assist Department Group Manager with development of E&I personnel and processes and specific working practices for local nuclear work.

Ensures that all E, I & C Engineering & Design solutions are safe and fully compliant with current legislation and applicable codes & standards.

Ensures that all E, I & C related Design Safety Assessments are completed effectively and all associated actions are recorded, closed out and all residual risks clearly communicated.

Ensures that the appropriate Technical Integrity Management processes are appropriately executed.



Training and Experience

15+ years of experience with Industrial Process Control Applications is required with at least 10 years within the Sellafield community.

BS or MS in Chemical, Control, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

Chartered Engineer.

Advantageous to have experience and exposure with the design of radiometric systems.

Able to coordinate and work with other task force disciplines, project management and client representatives.

Producing and supporting design delivery – modifications, design verification, substantiation, design reviews etc. in line with Sellafield design procedures

Very good proactive communicator.

Competent in Process control with an emphasis on understanding the process and dynamics.

Automation / Control software development experience with an emphasis on full lifecycle systems design.

Strong instrumentation engineering experience, much of which in the selection, specification and engineering of Instrumentation equipment including Fieldbus / Hazardous Area / SIS.

Production of scope of work for system integrator and for site installation sub contractors.

Knowledge of DCS and SIS systems.

Fully experienced in the preparation of Safety System documentation – Cause & Effect Diagrams, Safety Narratives. Also Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and Software Design Specifications (SDS) for complex control systems.

Understanding of Electrical Systems design processes.

Competent in the use of Databases.

Competent in the Specification / Design / Implementation of SIL levels 1 – 3 in accordance to IEC 61508/11 as well as Safety Lifecycle planning.

Evaluation of tenders.
