Principal Instrument Engineer


Basic Purpose of Job:
• Assure Technical Integrity of the discipline output on the contract or project.
• Provide direction and guidance to the team in technical and resource related issues.
• Manage the delivery of discipline deliverables for use by contract or project.
• Manage the discipline resources within the project or contract to ensure delivery on time to budget.
• Provide the necessary cost, planning and progress information to the contract or project
• Support the Chief Engineer in discipline engineering function activities.
• Ensure that all allocated responsibilities are dealt with in accordance with agreed procedures & standards.
• Ensure that the Client business drivers and performance incentives are fully understood by all personnel being supervised.

Supervisory and Managerial Duties:
• Management of discipline team or teams assigned to contract or project to deliver efficiently and effectively
• Represent contract or project in corporate engineering function issues
• Assist the Lead or Chief Engineer when required in the management of the discipline design function.Main Duties:
• Supervision of instrument staff under their control, & responsibility for the technical quality of work produced by them.
• Be conversant and knowledgeable with respect to current and new legislation and standards e.g., BS, API and Client codes and standards, DCR and HS&E Regulations and EU Directives
• Be aware and understand the business drivers within the Client organisation and how these can be influenced by innovated designs and minimum cost solutions
• Production of cost effective designs that are fit for purpose and safe.
• Approval of all engineering documents created by the Instrument team.
• Identification of appropriate resources for engineering works and forward planning of resources, taking into account cross asset requirements
• Compliance with engineering procedures and industry, international and Client Codes and standards.
• Assurance that personnel within the Instrument group are competent. Identification of inadequacies in personnel and proposing solutions such as training, coaching or replacement
• Responsible for assessing and identifying deviations to standards, that will benefit the Client and gaining acceptance of Client Technical Authorities
• Responsible for input to project plans and schedules, achievement of agreed schedule, during the course of any project or study or early identification of project areas of concern with necessary corrective action identified
• Progress of the works under their control and the achievement of targets.
• Responsible for reporting progress as per company systems and procedures
• Producing engineering deliverables registers and controlling the works against those registers
• Identification of increase or reduction in scope, raising the necessary support documents for
Project Control Purposes
• Preparation of engineering and construction scopes for both man-hours and equipment estimates where necessary
